MEMBERSHIP

The Tourist Guides Association of the City of Zagreb may have regular and associate members.
Full membership is granted to all licensed tourist guides with Croatian citizenship who have passed the general and special part of the tourist guide exam for Zagreb and the Zagreb County.
Affiliate membership can be granted to all natural and legal persons, regardless of their citizenship, who work in tourism or similar fields or are in any other way interested in furthering the Organization's activities.

 

CODE OF CONDUCT

The activities of the Association are managed by the President, Vice-President and the Board of Directors. All members are encouraged to actively participate in the work of the Assembly as well as to personally contribute to the projects and activities of the Association where possible, promoting the name and activities of the Association.

*The members have to abide by the Organization's Code of Conduct which defines the duties of members to provide guiding services to their clients according to highest professional standards and contribute to objective presentation and understanding of destination.

*Organization's members have to make sure that facts they present during their tour are objective, true and accurate, their presentation should be unbiased and should clearly mark the difference between facts, myths, legends and subjective accounts.

*In order to protect the reputation of tourism in our country, members are obliged to ensure that during tourist guidance, visitors/guests treat the environment, wildlife, landmarks and monuments with respect, as well as local customs and cultural sensitivity.

*It is the duty of all members to treat former and current clients, colleagues in the profession and the public fairly and fairly.

*Members of the Association are free to present their services to potential clients provided that they do not ask the client to violate a contract they already have with another member of the Association.

*Members of the Association will not engage in any activities that could harm the reputation of the Association and the interests of its members.

 

HOW TO BECOME A GUIDE

If you love working with people, you are fun and outgoing, you like walking around the city and at the same time learning new things, than this is the right profession for you!

In order to become a guide, you must meet some formal requirements:

- you have to be Croatian citizen
- be active on the labour market
- have at least a high-school degree
- be fluent in at least one foreign language

The tourist guide exam consists of a general and a special part.

The general part covers subjects such as the Political System of the Republic of Croatia, the Economic System of the Republic of Croatia, Basics of Tourism and Introduction to Tourism Business, Basics of Tourism Legislation, Croatian History, Tourist Geography of Croatia, Cultural and Historical Monuments and Other Sights of Croatia, Speaking and Writing Culture, Foreign Language (Exam Only), Operational and Technical Guiding Tasks for Tourist Guides.

The special part of the course consists of lectures on the topic of the county for which the exam is being taken.

The professional tourist guide exam is taken before an examination committee at a higher education institution designated by the Minister of Tourism to conduct professional exams for tourist guides.
